Our Work
Our Work
SIYAJ Association for Child Protection works to protect, defend, and advance the rights of Palestinian children through an integrated approach that combines direct support, legal protection, documentation, advocacy, and community participation.
Legal Protection and Access to Justice
We provide child-sensitive legal support and representation to children who are in contact with the justice system or who have experienced violations of their rights. We work to ensure that children understand their rights, are treated fairly, and have access to appropriate legal assistance throughout legal procedures. SIYAJ advocates for justice processes that respect children's age, needs, dignity, and right to be heard. We also work to strengthen safeguards for children in detention, during interrogation, and throughout court proceedings, while supporting families to navigate complex legal processes.
Documentation and Monitoring
We document and monitor violations of children's rights, including violence, abuse, exploitation, neglect, and violations affecting children's safety, education, health, family life, and access to justice. Through careful, ethical, and child-sensitive documentation, we seek to ensure that children's experiences are not ignored. The evidence we collect helps identify patterns of harm, informs protection responses, strengthens advocacy, and contributes to efforts to hold responsible authorities and institutions accountable.
Prevention and Community Protection
Preventing harm before it occurs is central to our work. SIYAJ raises awareness of children's rights and protection risks among children, parents, caregivers, educators, service providers, and community leaders. We support communities to identify risks, strengthen referral pathways, and develop practical responses to violence, abuse, exploitation, and neglect. By building knowledge and shared responsibility, we work to make child protection a collective commitment.
Advocacy and Accountability
SIYAJ uses evidence, children's lived experiences, and legal and human rights standards to advocate for stronger protection measures, fair policies, and effective accountability. We engage with decision-makers, institutions, service providers, and national and international partners to promote laws, policies, and practices that protect children and uphold their rights. Our advocacy seeks to ensure that duty bearers meet their obligations and that violations against children are addressed with seriousness, transparency, and respect for the child's best interests.
Children's Participation and Empowerment
Children have the right to express their views and to participate in decisions that affect their lives. SIYAJ creates safe and meaningful opportunities for children to learn about their rights, share their experiences, and contribute to positive change in their communities. We support children to become informed, confident, and active advocates for their own rights and the rights of others. Their voices, perspectives, and priorities are essential to shaping protection services, advocacy initiatives, and community solutions.
Partnerships for Lasting Change
Protecting children requires coordinated action. SIYAJ works with families, community-based organizations, schools, service providers, legal professionals, public institutions, and national and international partners to strengthen child protection systems. Through partnership and collaboration, we aim to build sustainable responses that ensure every child can live in safety, dignity, and hope.
