About SIYAJ
Our Approach
SIYAJ adopts a rights-based, participatory, and holistic approach to protecting and promoting children's rights. We recognise children as rights holders whose dignity, best interests, experiences, and views must guide every action and decision affecting them.
A Rights-Based Approach
Our work is grounded in international human rights standards and the principles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. We believe every child is entitled to protection, dignity, equality, participation, and access to justice, without discrimination. We work to ensure that children's rights are respected, protected, and fulfilled, while promoting accountability among the institutions and individuals responsible for safeguarding them.
Children at the Centre
Children are not merely beneficiaries of protection services. They are individuals with their own rights, experiences, perspectives, and capacities. We promote meaningful child participation by creating safe opportunities for children to express their views, contribute to decisions, and take part in initiatives that affect their lives and communities.
A Holistic Approach to Protection
Effective child protection requires addressing the different factors that influence a child's safety and well-being. SIYAJ combines prevention, direct intervention, legal assistance, psychosocial support, documentation, and advocacy. By addressing both immediate protection needs and the wider conditions that place children at risk, we work towards sustainable solutions that support children's safety, development, and dignity.
Prevention and Early Intervention
We believe that preventing violations is as important as responding to them. Through awareness, community engagement, capacity-building, and early identification of protection risks, SIYAJ works to reduce children's exposure to violence, exploitation, abuse, and neglect. When violations occur, we seek to ensure that children and their families can access appropriate support and protection.
Partnership and Coordination
Protecting children is a shared responsibility. SIYAJ works with families, communities, civil society organisations, legal professionals, service providers, institutions, and decision-makers. Coordinated action helps strengthen referral pathways, improve protection responses, address gaps in services, and promote a more effective child protection system.
Evidence-Based Advocacy and Accountability
SIYAJ uses documentation, monitoring, research, and children's experiences to identify violations, highlight protection gaps, and advocate for meaningful change. We seek to ensure that policies and practices reflect children's rights and that duty bearers are held accountable for their responsibilities.
